Data-intensive bioimage analysis for advancing retinal degenerative diseases therapies
Digital Retina aims at building an imaging system capable of visualising and quantifying, in a formal way, if it is possible to recover normal activity in atrophic retinas after being implanted with healthy photoreceptors.
Such tool will be capable to generate connectivity maps, with high spatio-temporal resolution, indicating how neurons are functionally interconnected in the retina.
This will help to understand the functional neuronal circuitry in the retina, providing to the biomedical researchers a highly valuable tool to assess the efficacy of retinal regeneration upon photoreceptors transplantation.
